Map request

[edit]

It would be neat to have a map showing the interior arrangement of municipalities inside the county. -- Beland 06:59, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article now includes a township map. I'll see about a municipality map. Omnedon (talk) 23:51, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The article could also use a map of Commissioner districts, based on this (not-free) map: http://www.cookcountygov.com/taxonomy2/Geographic%20Information%20Systems/Downloads/Cook_Comdist_2011.pdf

Question

[edit]

Article states Cook county is 19th largest government in US. Is this by pop or by revenue?

If by population it does not tally with other lists and 5.2M would put it between Wisconsin and Minnesota meaning 20 states and LA county are larger.

If by revenue we need a reference.

As a limey I do not want to blunder in and edit this in case I'm wrong. 81.107.45.169 15:00, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Corruption?

[edit]

Not a single mention of the high amount of corruption in Cook County? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.248.38.76 (talk) 22:26, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Age Pyramid

[edit]

The age pyramid under the Demographics section needs to be resized or converted from svg. The numbers on the graph are all mushed together. --Pyho T / C 03:42, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Census reference incorrect

[edit]

The article references the 2008 Census. There is no 2008 Census. They are only done every 10 years, with 2000 being the most recent available. Likely, the number references the Census Bureau's estimate for 2008, or a similar measure. Didn't want to change it, not knowing what the correct reference would be or where the number came from.68.100.211.238 (talk) 22:15, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Updated population figures for the townships, based on the 2010 census. Listmeister (talk) 14:39, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

incorporated cities

[edit]

the article states that the number of incorporated cities in cook county is 130 but this is unsourced. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.62.20.190 (talk) 06:47, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

It was a load of pointless bollocks to be honest. There should probably be a mention of ER in passing in the article but aside from that there is no reason for it and it's just silly Wikipedia anno 2008 stuff. 81.158.100.164 (talk) 18:36, 19 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Need more about land use in the County, air transport, canals, railroads

[edit]

I just moved the Demographics section up after History. I took the short, uncited paragraph about Operation Greylord out of History and moved it to Politics. Then I added Canals, Railroads and Airports to the Infrastructure section. I did not add any inline citations, for which I apologize. My goal was to get these important topics into this article on the County. I hope others can improve what I wrote and add the citations. Cook County, like its main city Chicago, is a hub of transportation nationally, for every mode of travel for people and goods, and this is one way the County has become so economically strong, vital to the nation, and how it attracted so much population in the period after the Civil War. A huge variety of industries were strong here because of the canals, the railroads, the highways, the intermodal transfer points once containers took over for freight.

I did not include the Port facilities specifically, an oversight.
The History section might be improved by a summary of the change from an agricultural county to one with a huge population and a wide variety of industries and offices, headquarters for many companies. Other parts of the state benefit from this hub of transportation. Joliet in Will County grew rapidly, for example, along with the transportation improvements. That is just one example. I do not know the share of land still in agricultural use in the County in 2020. For now, I used the Clear template so the Demographics section can start below the infobox. --Prairieplant (talk) 08:00, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Looking over the article again, there is no section on the economics of the County. Another section to consider. --Prairieplant (talk) 08:09, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New Flag

[edit]

The Cook County Board Legislation Committee just announced a new flag for Cook County [1], so I've replaced the flag in the infobox. New to Wikipedia, sorry if I've jumped the gun. Perhaps the county will commission a different image file to be the official image, so an editor might want to circle back to this in a bit to see if the flag ought to be updated. Orphaned references in Cook County, Illinois

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Cook County, Illinois's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "Census":

  • From Native Americans in the United States: "Preference for Racial or Ethnic Terminology". Infoplease. Retrieved February 8, 2006.
  • From Republic of Winston: 1860 US Census, Winston County, Alabama

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 22:25, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
